Traditionally, many people see their medical doctor when they have some type of obvious ache or pain. However waiting for these obvious symptoms to appear before finally seeking help is becoming an increasing burden on our health care system, economy and well-being.
While many people call this ‘Health Care‘, it is actually ‘Sickness Care‘.
For those things that we value in our lives like the central heating, our cars and not forgetting our teeth, we value regular care. This type of maintenance view, although costing us more initially in terms of time and money, reduces the chance of failure. In the long run it is likely to reduce the overall cost and ensure that follow on problems are reduced.
A good example is a self-employed person who consulted us recently. His comment was, “If I can’t work, I don’t get paid.”
A study published several years ago in an edition of Topics in Clinical Chiropractic looked at a group of seniors aged 75 years or older. Subjects who were receiving chiropractic care reported experiencing better overall health and had fewer hospital admissions, used fewer medications and were more active than their peers who did not receive chiropractic care.
A more recent analysis published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics looked at 311 chiropractic clients aged 65 years or older who had been receiving ‘maintenance’ chiropractic care for five years or longer. When compared with subjects who were not receiving chiropractic care, they had half as many medical doctor visits and overall had healthier habits.
Other studies further confirm what a growing number of our Inspired Chiropractic clients have been telling us: it’s actually less expensive to stay well, than it is to get well.
Changes to spinal and nerve function occur slowly over time. Regular checks are important as symptoms may not appear as obviously as with ‘Sickness Care'; subtle changes to function are a reduction in the body’s ability to adapt to the challenges of each day. The body works less well and self healing reduces.
Make sure that you and your family are checked regularly.
